Brewery secures a deal with Norway
Beer brewed at the Hook Norton brewery is set to become a lot cooler after
the company signed a new distribution deal.
The historic brewery will see its award-winning beers sold across Norway after
the agreement was struck with the Oslo-based Malting House. The Norwegian Malting
House specialises in importing strong and speciality beers sold in the countrys
hotels and restaurants.
The firm's director, Jon Smith Johnsen said: "We are very happy to sign
a distribution agreement with Hook Norton Brewery and look forward to marketing
and selling its fantastic range of beers in Norway.
"I have visited breweries all over the world but this little piece of
magic that is Hook Norton Brewery is something special indeed. Only after visiting
can one truly appreciate the heritage of the brewery and its excellent beers."
Mr Johnsen added that the brewery will sell bottled products initially before
branching out into supply of beers such as Old Hooky and Double Stout next
year.
It is a major development for the brewery which started in 1849 and is one
of only 32 independent family-run breweries in the country.
Hook Norton is sold in a number of other countries, including Australia, South
Africa, Canada, Italy, Ireland and Russia. Bosses are hoping to increase the
export business significantly.
Joint managing director Adrian Staley said: "The Norwegian deal could
be significant for us as they are looking to take a keg beer.
"We are looking to double our export volume and seeking partners in various
countries throughout the world."
The other joint managing director, James Clarke, is the great-great-grandson
of the founder, John Harris.
Recently the brewery picked up five medals at the 2012 International Beer
Challenge Awards, which recognise skilful brewing.
