New licensee for Hook Norton’s Brewery’s tap

One of Oxford’s best-known and most popular pubs has a new licensee behind the bar.

Laura Riley is the new tenant of the Pear Tree in the village of Hook Norton, famed for being the tap for the nearby Hook Norton Brewery.

Laura might only be twenty years old, but she has worked in pubs and bars since the age of 14.

“I started washing glasses in a rugby club and I decided I preferred hard work and earning money than going way to university,” said Laura.

Her efforts have certainly paid off, as Laura is now running her own business as a tenant of a Hook Norton pub. She is now looking forward to developing her business, to ensure the Pear Tree stays at the heart of village life. Traditional pub games are available with the pub supporting darts and Aunt Sally teams.

The Pear Tree is a proper village pub and is ideally located for use by the many walkers and cyclists who pass by or visitors to the Hook Norton Brewery Visitor Centre. Cosy inside, it has a light and airy single, beamed bar, which on colder days is heated by a welcoming log fire. The pretty garden is ideal for use by families with children.

Proper pub food is available including ham, egg and chips; homemade lasagne and beer battered fish with mushy peas and chips. There is a selection of light bites, served, in either a baguette or a wrap. There is also a range of ploughman’s and salads. Most of the food is homemade and produced with locally sourced ingredients.

The Pear Tree offers a wide range of Hook Norton’s award winning beers.

The Pear Tree is ideally located for use by tourists or business travellers – it offers bed and breakfast and has two family rooms and one double.
