Hook Norton goes Mild in May - Special Dark Mild
an old style beer with a modern twist
Hook Norton is backing the Campaign for Real Ales (CAMRA)
promotion of mild style beers in May with the launch of Special
Dark Mild.
Hook Norton SDM- Special Dark Mild, at 4.6 per cent ABV, will be
available throughout May has a fruity flavour typical of a traditionally
English dark mild.
SDM is the second mild in Hook Norton range of quintessential English
ales with a modern twist the North Oxfordshire brewer also
produces Hooky Dark, at 3.2 per cent ABV, a contemporary version
of an old favourite. It is mild, sweet and thirst quenching.
CAMRA should be congratulated for its promotion of mild beer,
said Hook Norton Managing Director James Clarke. I hope CAMRA
members will ask pubs to stock SDM and then encourage their friends
to give it a try. They will not be disappointed.
Milds are black to dark brown to pale amber in colour and come
in a variety of styles from warming roasty ales to light refreshing
lunchtime thirst quenchers.
Milds were once very popular, but fell out of favour as Britains
industrial heritage declined however they are now back in
vogue and proving to be popular again.
Malty and possibly sweet tones dominate the flavour profile but
there may be a light hop flavour or aroma. Slight diacetyl (toffee/butterscotch)
flavours are not inappropriate. Alcohol levels are normally low.
Hook Nortons summer seasonal ale Haymaker will go on sale
in pubs in June. Haymaker, at 5 per cent ABV, is a strong pale ale
with plenty of distinctive taste. Hook Norton Managing Director
James Clarke said: The use of Goldings hops during the brewing
gives it something extra like sunshine dancing on the tongue.
