Red Lion is Chipping Norton’s best pub for conversation - The new tenants of the Red Lion say it is a traditional pub which sets the highest standards

The Red Lion, Chipping Norton is a small intimate pub, where the conversation is varied, the laughter loud and friendships are made.

And the new tenants of the Hook Norton pub Sheila Belton and Mick Taylor intend to keep it that way – as a traditional pub which sets the highest standards.

“The Red Lion is a proper pub, offering great Hooky beer, great company and good old-fashioned conversation. We are an ideal pub for people from the town or visitors to the area who want to experience a proper local,” said Shelia.

A friendly pub with a large roaring fire – Sheila says she wants the reputation for serving the best Hook Norton beer in the area and would love to see the pub listed in CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide.

“I intend to keep the beer properly in the cellar,” said Shelia, “then my customers should always get a perfect pint.”

“We are getting customers of all ages– and it is great to see so many younger drinkers coming in to drink real ale,” said Shelia.

Shelia is keen her customers pay a big part in the local community and help raise money for local causes. A former licensee of the Red Lion was the inspiration for GP Jonathan Moore to set up the Lawrence Home Nursing Team, which provides home care for terminally ill patients and in the past the pub’s customers have raised money for it. Shelia is hoping that her customers will once again support it or a similar charity.

Free wifi and newspapers are available.

The Red Lion has no jukebox, fruit machines or video games. Teams representing the Red Lion are entered in local leagues of crib, darts, dominoes and Aunt Sally.

The Red Lion has the best beer garden in Chipping Norton and is ideal for families

Originally built as a tap house the pub was first recorded back in 1686.
