Beer reviews for an online audience

The British Beer Video Blog is a series of online films being produced by award
winning brewer Peter Amor and Ian Hudson films. Working with award winning beer
writer Pete Brown each month the British Beer Video Blog will introduce beer
drinkers to the finest British cask-conditioned beers. We will share with viewers the
experience of drinking the wonderful natural flavours British beer offers all of us. We
will be investigating what is special about our unique beer, the brewing, the pubs,
the history, the politics of it all and all the people involved in the industry.

The latest episode was filmed at the National Winter Ales Festival in Manchester and
features reviews of Moorhouse’s Pendle Witches Brew, Marble’s Chocolate, Baltic
Fleet’s Damson Stout and Robinsons’ Old Tom. Also featured is Peter Amor’s
exclusive interview with chief executive of CAMRA Mike Benner and former chair of
the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group, John Grogan.

Peter Amor is founder and chairman of Wye Valley Brewery and former chairman of
the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) 2007-10. He is a man who passionately
believes in spreading the word about British cask-conditioned beer.

So far Peter has made a three episode guide to brewing, taking the viewer from the
four natural ingredients of water, malt, hops and yeast through the brewing and
fermentation process to the perfect pint in your hand. In future episodes he will be
investigating the contemporary British brewing industry.

There has been, in recent years, a resurgence of interest in quality British Beer.
My wish with the video blog is to give a greater understanding of this unique product
to the people who drink and enjoy it.
British brewing is iconic and the combination of science and art by the brewer using
the four key ingredients of water, malt, hops and yeast to produce such wonderful
flavours should be celebrated.
Hopefully our British Beer Video Blog will encourage more people to drink our
wonderful beers and come to understand British beer is of local, regional and national
cultural importance.

Pete Brown is an author, beer writer, journalist, broadcaster, consultant, taster and
pundit. The Beer Writer of the Year 2009 Pete Brown is author of three books about
beer Man Walks into a Pub, Three Sheets to the Wind and Hops and Glory. He also
writes the annual Cask Report.

Beginning with the champion beer of Britain 2010, Castle Rock’s Harvest Pale, Pete
has so far reviewed 20 beers from as many breweries across the UK. The beers
reviewed to date include Blue Monkey’s 99 Baboons, Nottingham Brewery’s Bullion,
Breconshire’s Rambler’s Ruin, Otley’s Amarill-O, Sambrook’s Wandle, Redemption’s
Porter and Wye Valley’s HPA to name only a few.

Beer can be just as complex, sophisticated, subtle and diverse as wine. The reason I
am involved in making these video blogs about beer instead of wine is that beer is
more democratic, it is more fun than wine.
‘Most beers are a balance between malty and hoppy but with this they have some
incredibly evocative flavours. My role is to convey all of the subtlety, depth, brilliance,
and variety of British beer.
